NolasiA is Dj Smith on bansuri and his twin brother Idak on guitar. Both being
from New Orleans and having lived in Asia for many years, Dj and Idak have developed a unique sound combining the influences of both worlds.

     At first, Dj was mostly planning on playing Indian classical music on the flute, but shortly realized the sonic potential for other styles of music, especially jazz. Alongside his study of the American jazz greats, some of his primary eastern influences come from Indian classical, Egyptian kawala, and Korean and Japanese traditional music. Dj has also spent a lot of time studying the New Orleans piano greats, such as Professor Longhair and Dr. John.

     Besides having developed a personal style as an accompanist to the bamboo flute Dj's brother Idak is an adept improviser as well.  Through Idak's encouragement of his brother to play jazz on the bansuri, it has led him to a unique career path performing in a duo setting which he did not foresee.  
  They will be performing in the New Orleans area and beyond...
